There has been plenty of gameplay and information released about Battlefield 4, multiplayer and campaign. What does an avid Battlefield player think about it?
It looks incredible! Especially the multiplayer, which seems set to be raising the bar sky high for the next generation of FPS games. There will be many new additions such as Commander Mode, which allows a single player on a team, the Commander, to call in airstrikes and supply drops, tell their teammates where to attack/defend or even call in an AC-130 gunship. This can be controlled on the console or PC you are on but there will also be an app available for iOS and Android that you will be able to command the battlefield from! This will an amazing, authentic war experience.
The destruction has been enhanced, as demonstrated in the "Siege of Shanghai" gameplay trailer. There is a section in the map that is underground. There is a street above that is held up by supports. In the trailer the supports are blown up and the road collapses, trapping a tank for an easy C4 kill. Also during the trailer, a squad goes up an elevator in a skyscraper to capture the objective. When they are on the roof they are attacked by a helicopter which devastates the offices on the top floor. Once they capture the objective a warning tells them that the building is being damaged. They proceed to jump off of the roof and as they are parachuting down they turn to watch the skyscraper collapses, destroying everything in its way.
The trailer also shows a section of combat involving boats and helicopters. Boats have been improved for Battlefield 4, they are no longer simply transport vehicles, they are now able to cause massive damage to enemy troops. They can be equipped with AA missiles and ATGM anti tank missiles. When the boat is very damaged you can even evacuate onto a jet ski to make a quick getaway. Water will also be much more prominent in Battlefield 4 maps than in Battlefield 3, meaning that boats will be more effective in more situations.
The Campaign doesn't seem to be as innovative as the multiplayer mode, but that isn't Battlefield's main selling point. People don't buy Battlefield for the storyline, however it still seems action packed and exciting. Two missions have been revealed so far, Angry Sea and Fishing in Baku. the former is set on a aircraft carrier and Fishing in Baku is set in Azerbaijan. The two gameplay trailers display how amazing the graphics and performance will be for BF4. DICE have stated that Battlefield 4 will run at 60FPS(frames per second) on PS4, Xbox One and powerful enough PCs. This is shown in the pure beauty of the game, sun flares have been reduced, water effects have been improved and dust particles in the air swirl around realistically.
In my opinion, BF4 will be one of the best next-gen games on either console. I am really looking forward to playing 64-player conquest at 64FPS whilst smashing through building in a tank. Of course, it might be a flop. Knowing EA they'll probably mess something up, but we will just have to wait and see.
