Candy Crush Saga Review

Candy Crush Saga, the latest addictive app has taken the world by storm recently. It's simple, easy to learn gameplay makes it the ideal game for anyone to play at home, on the way to work, or anywhere.
The gameplay is very similar to games like Bejeweled, you have to match 3 candies of the same colour to clear them from the board. There are five different game modes which each have different ways of winning. 'Target Score' where you have to get a certain score in a set number of moves. 'Jelly' where you clear all of the jelly squares from the board to win. 'Ingredients' where yo have to get ingredients such as cherries to fall to the bottom of the board. 'Timed' where you have a time limit to get enough points to win. ' Objectives' where you must clear a certain amount of one type of candies to win.

You can create special candies; Striped Candies,Wrapper Candies and Colour Bombs. Striped Candies are created when you get 4 in a row instead of 3 and they clear out a whole column or row, depending on the direction of the stripes. Wrapper Candies are created when you make 2 lines of 3 in one move, they explode in a 3x3 area, clearing everything. Colour Bombs appear when you get 5 in a row of one candy, they clear out all of the candies that are the same colour as the one you switch it with. these special candies can be mixed to have very powerful effects!

The graphics are bright and vibrant, they are clearly targeted towards a young audience but adults can still enjoy the pleasant art style. A commentator will congratulate you when you earn a lot of points by saying 'Divine', 'Tasty' and others.

You have a limit of 5 lives (8 if you pay £11.99 though in-app purchases) and these are lost every time you lose a game, when they run out you cannot play any more. They slowly recover back but you can ask Facebook friends to send you some. You can also ask Facebook friends to unlock the next set of levels or you instead of having to pay £0.69.

In-app purchases are available in the Yeti Shop but are overpriced. An extra 3 more life slots will set you back £11.99. A Charm of Stripes that allows you to make one candy a Striped Candy per game costs £27.99 and a Charm of Frozen Time that makes the time limit stop on levels with time limits(there aren't many) costs £17.49. Not really worth it in my opinion, you could buy a new Xbox or PS3 game for those prices.

Overall, Candy Crush Saga is an excellent game. The gameplay is simple and fun, the art style is cool and it is fun to compete with friends over Facebook. If you avoid wasting any money on in-app purchases then there is nothing stopping you from buying this great free app!
