Minecraft: How To Survive Your First Night

Surviving your first night in minecraft can be dangerous without making the most of the day before. Here's how to make the day count.

First off you will want to punch some trees to destroy them and get wood. Use this wood to make a workbench by putting 1 wood in all 4 spots of your inventory crafting section.

Turn the rest of your wood into wooden planks by placing all of it in one slot of the workbench. After that, make yourself about 20-30 sticks by placing one wooden plank above another on the grid.

Create a pickaxe as this will be necessary to mine stone and coal.
To make one, put 1 wooden plank on each of the top rows and then put sticks in the two middle spots. If you do not understand look on the minecraft wiki.

Find coal, the best place to look would be on mountainsides as they are out in they are out in the open and coal stands out. Coal looks the same as stone but with black lumps in it. OPTIONAL- replace your wooden pick with a stone one that will last longer. It is built in the same way as a wooden pick but with stone replacing the planks.

Use the coal to make torches (place the coal above a stick on the grid) to place light in and around your home once you have built it.

Build your house using either wooden planks or, if you have enough supplies, stone. Make the walls at least 3 blocks high so you have room to jump. Do the house as big or as small as you want as you can always expand it later. Place torches in the house to see and to prevent monsters from spawning inside. OPTIONAL- place a door that you will be able to open/close and will also give you a small window to check out of.

Build a furnace by placing 8 stone blocks in a ring, leaving the middle space empty. The furnace can be used for cooking food and for melting sand into glass for windows
